IJSS Editorial System (IES) User Guide for Reviewers
This user guide can show you how to do the following:

Register as a Reviewer
To review manuscripts in IES, the journal office needs to add Reviewer privileges to your online profile. If you are already registered as an Author and you are granted access as a Reviewer, you can proceed to log in to IES.
Log in to IES
You will receive your access details (username and password) by e-mail once you have registered in the system. Your username and password is confidential to you, therefore please file this carefully. However, you will always receive your unique username and password in each e-mail from IES when you are invited to review a paper.

Switch user roles
If you use more than one role in the journal (for example, Reviewer, Author, and/or Editor) once logged in, you can switch to another role without logging out.

Access Scopus for free
To assist you in the reviewing process, you will be offered full access to Scopus via IES for 30 days each time you agree to review a paper. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources. Updated daily, Scopus covers 15,000 peer-reviewed titles from more than 4,000 publishers in addition to more than 275 million scientific web pages and 21 million patents. With Scopus you can track citations, search for related articles, references and papers by the same author.
If you are already use Scopus at your institute, having this 30-day full access means that you will also be able to access Scopus from home at www.scopus.com/reviewers.

Submit a recommendation
Important: you must have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to download the manuscript PDF. If you do not have this software installed on your system, click to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Upload an attachment to a review
Depending the journal, you may be able to download the PDF you have been invited to review, annotate it as needed and upload this file into the system when you are submitting your recommendation. You can also upload other types of files that you feel are relevant to the review, such as text files, images or other files.

View your completed assignments
Once you have submitted your recommendation, the submission will move into your Completed Assignments. No further action is required of you.

Respond to an invitation
The review process may be described as follows:
- The Editor or the journal office invites the Reviewer.
- The Reviewer receives the invitation by e-mail.
- The Reviewer logs on to the site using the username and password or hotlinks provided in the e-mail.
- After reading the abstract or previewing the manuscript, the Reviewer agrees or declines to review.
- If the Reviewer agrees, he or she reads the manuscript and logs on to IES to submit a review.
- The Reviewer types comments to the Authors and Editor, selects a Recommendation, rates the manuscript and submits the review to the journal office.
